Mission Trip

Throughout the beginning of high school, I always knew that I wanted to participate in a mission trip. My older siblings had both done different ones, and always raved about how rewarding it was to make a difference. I was able to spend three weeks in the British Virgin Islands in 2018, just after Hurricane Irma hit. I was living completely on a boat for these few weeks with complete strangers, and I would not have had it any other way. We spent half of our days going onto land from sunrise to sunset. We helped rebuild houses and buildings, painted a school, spent time with the young students, and removed tons of debris. The other half of our days were spent on the water, catching and tagging sea turtles for scientists. To this day, this was the best month of my life. While some of the days were filled with blood, sweat and tears, I knew we were genuinely providing so much help and relief to a community that had been so damaged. I even met some lifelong best friends here whom I keep in contact with every day!
